As soon as the family confirmed plans to spend the weekend in Baguio for my birthday, I found myself getting more and more excited, as it has been easily 20 years since my last visit.  This would also be Anthony’s first, and I couldn’t wait for him to try all the goodies I’ve come to associate with the “City of Pines,” like mountain strawberries, garlic longganisa, fresh ube jam, and (the very aptly named) kulangot.

We were thrilled to receive a text message from my cousins Patricia and Richard inviting us for a one-day excursion with their families up north.  I must mention right off the bat that I love road trips, and at the same time, I also love traveling with my cousins in particular. We’ve gone on many, many trips over the years, and they’re always fun, pleasant and easy-going.  As for their kids, my adorable nieces and nephews, let’s just say that they kept us adults on our toes. Hahaha!

First of all, we wish to open this blog post with clapping — a full minute of it — as Anthony and I congratulate our very own Shamcey Supsup for a stellar showing at this year’s Miss Universe pageant, held two days ago in Sao Paolo, Brazil.  Though I must admit that I used to be a bigger follower of pageants in my younger years — For some reason I feel the pageants of late seem to get less and less sophisticated — I know that in my heart of hearts, I will always derive a sense of excitement from the spectacle and color of it all.
