We were all excited to take my mom to Edsa Shangri La Hotel for Mother’s Day, where we booked ourselves a table at Paparazzi, a family favorite.  Thank heavens they seated us in a cozy corner of the restaurant because as expected, the antics began long before the first breadstick was served.

As soon as the family confirmed plans to spend the weekend in Baguio for my birthday, I found myself getting more and more excited, as it has been easily 20 years since my last visit.  This would also be Anthony’s first, and I couldn’t wait for him to try all the goodies I’ve come to associate with the “City of Pines,” like mountain strawberries, garlic longganisa, fresh ube jam, and (the very aptly named) kulangot.

One of the distinct pleasures of being a professional photographer is getting to meet the most fascinating people up close. In New York, while working with photographer Sante D’Orazio, I had the privilege of working with a number of celebrities, many of whom I personally admired and was happy to get to hang out with on set.

The Fried Chicken Parade is passing through town, and this year, we are its Grand Marshalls!  Well, kind of.  At least that’s how it felt when we got the assignment from our food editor Migs to find the best fried chicken dishes in Manila for this month’s Appetite Magazine. Instantly, Anthony and I were up for the challenge!

Epic Burger Fail!

My life has become less complicated as soon as I accepted the fact that Anthony will crave for a burger at least twice a week. At least now I can plan for it, no surprises.  I’m guessing it’s an American thing, and I’ve learned never, ever to stand between him and his “burgess,” which, to remind you, is our pet name for a burger, named after the actor Burgess Meredith, whom some of you will recognize as The Penguin in the Batman TV series.
